The initial group was started when a local health facility was being sold to a for-profit organization. The coalition is the first of its kind in the nation, formed to provide a voice for the underserved population particularly as it pertains to the conversions of the non-profit health care industry to for-profit entities. The mission is currently broadening to encompass the larger issues of access and services for underserved and vulnerable populations.
