As a nonprofit, we educate the public, lobby decision-makers, and organize volunteers to reform the state's campaign finance system. In 1998, we successfully fought for and won a dramatic overhaul of the state's campaign finance laws via the "Clean Elections Initiative". Winning with two-thirds of the vote, the ballot question established a new, voluntary public financing system for candidates who agree to limit their spending and contributions. MVCE has over 6,000 volunteers from every corner of the state. We are working to encourage more competition for public office by fighting the entrenched interests on Beacon Hill, not only to preserve the Clean Elections Law, but also to bring democracy back to the people.
