The Worcester Vegan Society (WVS) was founded in late 2006 by two local vegan activists, Stephen Dunne and Christina Triplett, in hopes to build a local network of like-minded people who want to create legal, positive animal welfare, environmental and social change within and beyond the Central MA area. Although our membership is primarily made up of vegans of all ages and backgrounds, we welcome anyone who would like to participate in the events we organize, which include, but are not limited to:

  • local and regional protesting, leaf letting and tabling to educate the public on a variety of issues
  • vegan lunch meet-ups at local restaurants or potlucks at local parks
  • litter clean up
  • fund raising for local animal shelters/sanctuaries and events such as the Step It Up, 2007
  • discussion workshops (review of various topics, action items, member suggestions)
  • political prisoner support events (letter writing and fund raising)
  • volunteering opportunities at local homeless and animal shelters
  • phone and letter writing campaigns to local officials and businesses
  • providing and sharing information on vegan health

We communicate to our members through a secure group email list, and each WVS member can choose their level of involvement and work on the issues of their particular interest. To sign up on our email list, please visit our contact page.

WVS hopes to ultimately become the one-stop reference point, a central hub, for people to learn about what issues require their help and also providing the necessary tools in order to get changes implemented. In order to do this, we will reach out to the community and build partnerships with local organizations like the Regional Environmental Council (REC) as well as regional ones like the Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition (MARC) and national groups such as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), The Humane Society of the US (HSUS), Environmental Defense, and Oxfam America.
